Wagner summer school welcomed Miss South Dakota 2014, Meredith Gould. She presented the fourth-grade class with a presentation on her platform of “Creating a F.I.R.M. Foundation for Your Future: Financial Integrity and Responsibility Through Mentorship”.

Sara Nelson and Joey Koupal announced their engagement.

Dan and Karissa Podzimek announced the birth of their son, Daxson Albert.

JonathanandWhitneyPodzimek announced the birth of their daughter, Layla Paige.

Retired Wagner Football Coach and Legend, Russ Morrell passed away.

The Wagner Waves traveled to O’Neil for the championship swim meet bringing home many awards and ribbons.

The National Guard 155th Engineer Company of Rapid City and Wager received a Superior Unit Award.

Susan Smit, new superintendent at Wagner Community School, began her duties.

Wagner’s 13–14-year-old Teener team headed for the State Tournament in Parkston.

Shelley Twitero and Bill Miller announced their engagement.

Darya and Bob Levesque announced the birth of their son, Jordon Robert.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Cynthia Zoss and David Majerius announced their engagement.

Chet Eitemiller was the recipient of the William & Byrne Griffith Scholarship given by the College of Agriculture & Biological Sciences at South Dakota State University.

Wayne Ramsdell patented a gun rack called “Freedom Holder”.

35 Years Ago – 1979

Dr. Thomas Duggan passed away. He was born in 1903. Dr. Duggan graduated from Marquette University Medical School in 1928 and established his practice in Wagner. He later moved to Denver to serve as Medical Director of Ava Maria Clinic where he served for 20 years.

Linda Mills was honored with a pink and blue shower.

Patty Soulek and Dean Furhur exchanged vows.

60 Years Ago – 1964

Sandy’s Furniture & Appliance of Avon leased the building recently vacated by James Drug and planned to have a complete line of furniture, appliances and floor coverings.

A resident of Pitman, NJ was recognized as the seventh million visitor at the Fort Randall Dam.

A daughter, Linda, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Don Yungbluth.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kafka.

70 Years Ago – 1954

Pfc. Robert Dvorak returned from Camp Carson, CO.

Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Barnhart and son, Joe, returned from Iowa City where Joe had been a surgical patient.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kocer of Tabor celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Pvt. Francis C. Mach graduated from a 12-week Engineer Equipment Maintenance Course at Fort Belvoir, VA.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Steve Carda; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Knight; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bures; and a son to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Brooks.

92 Years Ago – 1932

County School Superintendent, Ella Janda, reported 317 eighth graders graduated in Charles-Mix County this past year.

Ed Thompson, a resident west of Springfield, invented a new type of cream separator and it was believed that it would revolutionize the manner of taking cream from milk.

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Ritts and Mr. and Mrs. George Shoop celebrated their 50th wedding anniversaries. The couples were married in a double ceremony that took place in Plymouth County, IA. The brides were sisters.
