Wagner Girls Softball teams (18U and 14U) participated in the State Softball Tournament.

Pete and Connie (Uecker) Murphy celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

The Fort Randall Casino held their annual King and Queen of the Hill contest.

A “Star Party” was held at WCS where middle schoolers involved in summer school built their own telescopes to view the moon and rings around Saturn.

The Young Eagles Flight Program was held at the Wagner Municipal Airport.

20 Years Ago – 2004

The Wagner City Council approved a lease for the Boys and Girls Club for the old City Hall Building.

An open house was held in honor of Bill Holec’s 80th birthday.

Amy Slaba and Tyler Krivan announced their engagement.

Chelsea Young and Jeremy Lhotak announced their engagement.

The Wagner Volunteer Fire Department received a matching funds check from Modern Woodmen from their recent Tractor Pull Fundraiser for a new Jaws of Life.

To honor the centennial of the Lewis Clark Expedition, seventytwo- year-old Bob Holloway from Ephrata, WA, decided to fly the route backwards using a powered parachute.

St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Dante welcomed Fr. Richard Baumberger to the community.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Scott Alderink and his wife, Julie became the sole owners of Boom’s Restaurant.

Carl Kisely left to spend a year in Denmark.

Matt Abdouch played in the 1st annual 13–14-Year-Old All Star Game held in Sioux Falls.

Harley Zephier was named General Manager of the Ft. Randall Casino.

A son was born to Lisa and Whitey Tolliver on July 14.

45 Years Ago – 1979

The Wagner Teener team defeated Winner 4-2. Jay Fredrich had 3 hits. Rob Ahrens and Curt Gau 2 each.

Sandy Thaler and Danny Honomichl exchanged vows.

60 Years Ago – 1964

B.P.W. members met at the home of Mrs. Art Boxdorfer to honor Mrs. Faye Gilreath who was leaving for Iowa.

Junior Legion won over Geddes 10-8. Leading the hitting were Dennis Stule, John Kinder and Bob Buus. Dave Rokusek handled the catching.

Twin daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Roger Quartier on July 4th.

Wind, rain and hail devastated the area farms on July 10th. Hardest hit were farms around Ravinia and farms northeast of Wagner.

Betty Soukup graduated from Nettleton Commercial College.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wm Bertram.

70 Years Ago – 1954

Pastor F. R. Bacon was interim Pastor of Lake Andes and Pickstown Lutheran Churches.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bren moved to Oregon.

Pfc. Jimmy Metteer was signed to headquarters Sect. 340th ASU Fort Campbell, KY.

Esther Dostal and Betty Strayer were home for a few days from Minneapolis where they were taking Airline Communications School.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Beuchler and Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Morrow.

92 Years Ago – 1932

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith arrived in Wagner and planned on opening a bakery business in the building formerly occupied by McHale Bakery.

Several young men were busy clearing ground for a tennis court on the vacant Strohbehn lot northeast of Wagner. Philip Kirkpatrick and Henry Williamson were engineering the work at the court.

Clifford Willars, grandson of Mrs. Maude Von Eschen was a very sick boy with typhoid fever.

F.S. Strohbehn and Valda Seigfrien exchanged vows.

Harriet Wagner and Wesley Barta exchanged vows.
