WRIGHT NAMED DIRECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Laura Wright has been chosen and will take over the role of Director of Economic Development for Wagner Area Growth following Kelsey Doom’s decision to resign the position.
Wright is a 2008 Wagner High School graduate who went on to receive her degree in accounting from Mitchell Technical Institute. She has worked as an accountant at Bures & Associates, P.C. since 2010.
“I am excited to get started,” Wright said. “I have worked in the business and accounting field the last nine years, and I am looking forward to using that knowledge to help our local businesses succeed.”
Wright served for two years as Chamber of Commerce secretary before taking on the role of Chamber president this year. She is also on the church Board of Directors at East Lake Andes Lutheran Church where she also teaches Sunday school. In addition to these, she also serves on the board of directors for the Fort Randall Federal Credit Union, and volunteers where she can around the community. She has two children attending school in the Wagner School District.
“I was ecstatic to hear Laura got the job,” said Doom, who recently took a position as the CEO of the Chamber of Commerce in the Brookings community, vacating the position that Wright is taking over. “She knows the community, she understands what needs to be done, and she’s not afraid of hard work. We created a lot of great momentum over the past few years, and I have no doubt Laura will keep that going.”
Roger Schroeder, President of Wagner Area Growth, also spoke of the board’s excitement to welcome Wright to the team. “Laura grew up in rural Wagner and has been employed in Wagner for several years. This gives her the knowledge of what Wagner and the residents want and need. We look forward to working with Laura. She will do a great job,” he said.
In her new role in the community, Wright plans to provide new and existing businesses with the tools they need in order to succeed. “I am excited to dive in and figure out what the community needs are and work toward achieving them.”
Please help Wagner Area Growth and the community welcome Wright into her new position starting May 1st.
