It was a very windy end to The Wagner Raider’s Cross Country Season is past Thursday, October 13th. Living in South Dakota, we are used to windy days; some windier than others. But, as we pulled into the parking lot in Vermillion Golf Course, we could tell it was going to be a challenge for our runners.
With the wind gusting at up to 59mph on Thursday, running against the wind would be hard for all the Cross Country runners. However, the push that the wind would give the runners at their backs would be great when the wind was pushing behind them. With the curvature of the course, the wind was at the backs of our runners about ½ of the course. The other half, it was a head-on wind.
The kids held their own and worked hard this season. This was the Region meet for Wagner and there were high hopes for kids to make it to state. At regions, only the top 20 are taken to the state meet. Unfortunately, Wagner did not have anyone in the top 20. So, this concluded our 2022 season. It was an honor to have worked with these kids and we could not be more proud of them.
