Williams Septic of Avon changed ownership on December 1st of 2023 from Jack Williams to his daughter, Shona and her husband, Travis. Travis and Shona Hill are the new co-owners and operators of Williams Septic. Travis handles running the service truck and going out on calls while Shona runs the administrative side of the business. She takes service calls, does the scheduling, billing, etc. The couple had never planned to buy a septic business, but when the opportunity came available, they decided that it would be a good fit for their family.
Shona was born and raised in Avon and is a graduate of AHS; Travis was born and raised in Colorado. The couple had previously been living in Colorado Springs, CO. After the couple had their son, Henry George, they decided that they wanted to raise a family in a smaller community where they could enjoy living in a country setting. It all worked out perfectly time-wise with Shona’s father, Jack looking to retire from Williams Septic and sell the business.
Shona had previously worked for a pediatric clinic in the administrative office and Travis was a lineman.
The couple is really enjoying being new business owners. The transition to learning a new trade has gone well for Travis. They enjoy the flexibility that being their own boss’ offers, no two days are alike, and they get to spend time with their son every day instead of having to be traveling or away for work. The business has been very steady and even though the winter time is a slower time for the septic business, they are doing more business than Jack has done in past winters.
For now, the Hill’s plan to keep the well-established Williams Septic name, but may consider changing the name at some time in the future. The couple does hope to one day expand the business into installing septic systems and drain fields. Everything will be kept the same as when Jack was the owner. The services that Williams Septic provides are pumping septic tanks, mud pits, swimming pools, etc. They offer non-chemical pumping services. They will continue to service the same area that Jack did, traveling about an hour’s distance from Avon (areas from Pickstown to the Yankton area). The hours of business are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and are on call for emergencies. Williams Septic can be contacted at 605-500-8755.
The couple is settling onto their farm south of Tyndall. The Hills hope to have a little hobby farm, and have decided to start out with some chickens. They are also in the process of remodeling the farm house on the property. They enjoy family time and Travis also enjoys hunting, especially for pheasants. The couple has an 11-month-old son and a second baby on the way. Even though they are newly relocated to the area, they have enjoyed boating on the river and everyone has been very nice and welcoming to the Hills, making their transition to a new home and business that much easier.
Thank you for continuing to provide a much-needed service in the Avon area and congratulations on being new business owners and on having a little one on the way.
