WHAT DOES CHICKEN SOUP AND BINGO HAVE IN COMMON?
Where can you spend time with old friends and make some new friends at the same time? How can chicken soup help in making an enjoyable evening? What does bingo have to do with chicken soup? These questions became very obvious to those who attended a special event held at the Parkview Villa apartments in Wagner on Sunday evening.
Residents at Parkview Villa Inc. were asked to invite a friend and come to a special supper and social event at the apartment complex on Sunday. The special supper involved chicken soup for the soul and bingo for those who chose to live on the edge of their seat, hoping for that right group of numbers to be on their card.
As can be seen in the photo, a large crowd was on hand to enjoy the evening activity. The purpose of the event involved providing an opportunity for residents of the apartment complex to get together with others and to invite a guest so everyone could have a great time being together. The social time also included some fun playing some friendly bingo. This event was organized by Dana and Brenda Sanderson. Roy King of Armour was also on hand and provided some basic information about the AARP organization and he encouraged those in attendance to consider becoming a part of the organization. Those with an interest were asked to contact Jane Kostel for some basic information as she is the local president.
“We had hoped that at least 15 people would find it important to get together for a supper and some socializing. Residents of the complex were asked to let us know if they planned to attend so we could be certain to have the right amount of food available. Residents were greatly encouraged to invite a friend to also attend so it would be more fun for all in attendance. To our surprise, over 40 people attended the event. Fortunately the chicken soup tasted good enough to keep everyone around to play some good old fashioned bingo, with a few different twists. Everyone had a great time.”
If you know of someone who is 62 or older or is disabled and considering moving out of their home, but not sure if this is the right thing to do, encourage them to contact Dana Sanderson and ask some questions about apartment living. “Although the soup was great for feeding the person, the real value of the meal involved getting together with others to enjoy an evening talking and laughing. Chicken soup and bingo have very little to do with each other, but the chicken soup was a great draw, but the companionship was the real value of the meal.”
