WHAT DO LAWN CHAIRS, CARDBOARD BOATS AND KOLACHES HAVE IN COMMON

By

Everyone knows what lawn chairs are. In fact, many of people have more than one. They are handy to have and are comfortable to use when no other options are available. It is also fair to say that everyone also knows what a cardboard box is what you can do with them. However, have you ever seen a cardboard box used to make a boat and cross a lake? Have you ever thought about how you might construct a boat out of cardboard if all you had was duck tape? Are you aware that you can go to lots of different places in this country and everyone will know what a lawn chair is or what a cardboard box is and everyone will be able to tell you what they are without hesitation? However, ask the average person what a kolache is and they will probably now have a clue. Do the test yourself to see if this is true? Also ask what all three of these things have in common and see what happens.

Others may wonder what they have in common so use this opportunity to educate them. Ask your question and tell them the answer will be obvious if they come to Wagner Lake on Sunday, June 12. This will be especially important when they know they might be hungry around noon and might have the urge to do something different and fun. This would be a great time to grab that favorite “lawn chair” and pick a spot near the Wagner Lake to watch some boat racers who have taken cardboard and used duck tape to turn that box into a “cardboard boat” to race against others for fun and fortune. How can it stay together and carry one or more racers across the lake faster than anyone else? You might like to know that this race is a way to help raise money for a new and badly needed community swimming pool. How many of these daredevils will be able to keep their boat afloat and what will they need to do to get to the other side without sinking. You may know what a “kolache” is, but what about the person who is standing in front of a cheering crowd, getting ready to eat them faster than the other contestants. All going for the fame and little fortune? Who will be the winner and who will go down in defeat?

Now what do ”lawn chairs, cardboard boats and kolaches” all have in common? The answer is some of the activities at the 605 Unity JAM at the Wagner Lake in Wagner on Sunday, June 12. This event is full of family fun, food, music, culture and unusual racing. Now go out into the world and share this interesting information.
