The Wagner Rotary Club began their April 17th meeting with President Jerry Weber issuing a sincere thank you to the Kathe and Jerry Henke Team for buying the steaks for our quarterly steak meeting. The Henke Team lost for the first time in recent history.

President Jerry introduced our District Governor, Mr. Dave Lorenz who decided that this rainy day was a good day to pay a visit to the Wagner Rotary Club. He came bearing gifts, one of which was a District raffle prize that was won by Roger Wiltz. The annual raffle drawing was held at the recent PETS (President Elect Training Session). DG Lorenz also awarded Rotary plaques to recent new members Bill Herrmann, Dr. Michaela Koenig, and Jordan Weber. The plaques have the Rotary symbol and the 4-way test printed on them. The District officers are presently conducting a membership drive and thought this was a good way to honor new members.

Pastor/Rotarian Bill Herrmann offered up thanks for the fellowship the Rotarians were enjoying and asked that we might continue in our practice of service to others. He ended the prayer by urging us all to join in the Easter services being held this Holy Week. He is Risen!

Member Ken Cotton gave an interesting geography lesson during the time devoted each week to a Membership Minute. Rotary Geography: Were you aware that the Rotary Club of Reno, Nevada, is farther west than the Rotary Club of Los Angeles, California?

Would you guess that the meetings of the Rotary Club of Portland, Maine, are farther south than those of the clubs in London, England?

CanyouimaginethattheRotary Club of Pensacola, Florida, is west of the Detroit, Michigan club?

It’s a fact that the Rotary Club of Cairo, Illinois, is south of Richmond, Virginia.,

There are 141 Rotary Clubs with the word “Tokyo” in their club names.

The Rotary Club of Nome, Alaska, lies west of the club in Honolulu, Hawaii; and the Santiago, Chile club is located east of the Rotary Club of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Rotary geographers will know that virtually every Rotary club meeting in Australia is east of the Hong Kong Rotary Club.

What do the Rotary clubs of Quito, Ecuador; Libreville, Gabon; Singapore; and Kampala, Uganda, have in common? You guessed right if you said they all meet approximately on the equator.

The Assistant Sergeant at Arms Amanda Bechen gave an entertaining presentation of fines for the clubmembers. Sheasked,“whoordered this rain today”? She levied the possible fine on Linda Soukup, but Soukup denied ordering the rain since there is such an excess of moisture. Fine was withdrawn. Scott McAdargh was singled out for providing the thickest, juiciest steaks ever for the membership race. Fine was withdrawn. She levied a $6 fine on Mr. Bryan Slaba who was recently named as one of 60 most influential health care specialists in the US. Dr. Koenig was singled out for being so brave and adhering to the rule implemented last week about sitting at a different table each meeting. Fine withdrawn. Patty Frei was asked if there was any scandal attached to her daughter Callie’s recent visit to SDSU. Patty replied that no money was exchanged so the fine was withdrawn. Bill Frei was fined $1 for looking for the song Smile in the songbook when we were expressly told to sing without books except for the newest members. Bill protested that he was looking for a new member, but the fine was still applied.

Assistant Sergeant reported that she had attended the Easter Cantata the previous night in order to hear Pastor Laurie singing but Pastor was not at the cantata. Fine was withdrawn as Laurie was not a participant in the cantata this year.

Happy Fines: Pastor Laurie paid a $5 fine for the sanctuary remodel which has begun at her church, United Methodist in West Wagner. Mike Cihak is the man in charge. The sanctuary is being updated after 50 years.

Ken Cotton paid a $10 fine for Jeff Doom cleaning out his driveway during the recent winter storm. The reason for the hefty fine was that he did the cleaning at 2:30 in the morning! Assistant Sergeant Bechen immediately levied a fine of $10.00 on Mr. Doom because he had not cleaned her driveway out until 4:00 in the p.m. Rachel Doom paid a $5 Happy Fine because she was able to escape the blizzard last week for a break in Las Vegas.DG Dave Lorenz paid a $5 Happy Fine because he finally knew who Jordan Weber was. He had previously mistaken Jeff Doom for Jerry Weber’s son which brought a huge amount of laughter from club members. Jerry Weber paid a $3 Happy Fine for his grandson turning 3 years old.

Jordan Weber drew from the remaining cards and came up short with a 5 of Clubs. $19 was collected for the Queen of Hearts drawing bringing the total up to $545 for some lucky person. Rotarian Patty Frei announced that there were 3 misses on the Henke Team and perfect attendance on the Frei Team for the day. She received correspondence relaying the dates for scheduled Webinars for Rotary members who want to apply for a Rotary Grant. The Rotary also received a letter from the City of Wagner for Curb and Gutter replacement for an amount to be determined later. There will be a City Council meeting next Monday April 22nd to address this if any Rotarians are interested in attending.

Jeff Doom reminded everyone of the City/Community wide cleanup date of May 3rd. Meeting was adjourned.
