Rotarian Dave Isebrands rang the bell signifying the start of the October 3rd meeting with the comment “This is the first time I have rung this bell in probably 30 years!” Dave was substituting for President Jerry Weber who was absent for business reasons.

Rotarian Laurie Kidd offered up a blessing for the food, the fellowship and the Senior students.

Senior students from WCS who were visiting introduced themselves: Kirstyn Roth, parents Brad and Pam Roth; Katlyn Knoll, parents Rick and Lynelle Knoll; and Ibanez Hopkins, parents Justin Cournoyer and Tanse Hopkins.

The club sang “Sing Out a Song of Rotary" played to the music of "Give My Regards to Broadway”.

Sergeant at Arms Craig Krsnak took to the podium after an absence and remarked on the mess created around his spot at the head table. It didn’t stop him from levying any fines.

The lucky number for a chance at a new deck of cards in the Queen of Hearts drawing was the number belonging to Roger Wiltz. Since he had left the meeting to go back to school he was not eligible to win. Sorry Roger! Amanda Bechen’s number was the next drawn and she managed to pull an 8 of Spades from the deck for which she received a lottery ticket. Members who do not draw the Queen always receive a lottery ticket as a consolation prize.

Football winners were: Marilee Krcil sold by Becky Brunsing and Roger Soukup sold by Jerry Henke.

SecretaryPattyFreiannounced that the attendance race has begun a new quarter and the Henke Team has 3 misses today and the Frei Team had 7 misses.

The Program Chairman for the day was Kelsey Doom who was out of town for work. She asked Amanda Bechen to introduce her program. Amanda introduced Mr. Larry Campbell from Missouri who has written and published a book called Rollin’ Down the River. He had prepared a slideshow presentation of some of the pictures in the book and talked about each slide. It was a very interesting and beautiful presentation.

Mr. Campbell traveled to Three Forks, Montana where the source of the Missouri River begins. There are official signs at the source of the river. He began his road trip of 2,341 miles following the river as it flowed through seven states and touches some nine states at times in the summer of 2016. Larry also made a special trip north of where the official site is posted where Hell Roaring Creek is the actual beginning source of the river and it flows from a natural spring. The official point of the beginning of the Missouri has three small tributaries coming together. Lewis and Clark named them Jefferson, Madison and Gallatin Rivers.

He was in the car and stopping at various points of interest for seven weeks. He managed to stay at least two nights in each of the seven states the river touches. He visited four capitals in the four main states and took many, many pictures. His last destination was where the Missouri River comes in confluence with the Mississippi River at St. Louis.

Mr. Campbell is a Rotarian and exchanged Rotary Club banners with the Wagner Rotary.

After the meeting was adjourned, Mr. Campbell had his books for sale and they sold out quickly. If you are interested in history and in our Missouri River you may contact Mr. Campbell for a book; or look him up on the Internet.
