A free Wagner Red Raiders softball camp was offered to 1st grade through 6th graders on Tuesday, May 14th after school. The camp was put on by Wagner Community School high school freshmen, Braxton Nedved and Shaelee Turner. As part of their Workplace Technical Skills class with Mrs. Tera Koupal, the students had to do a class project where they were required to help others. Several other students from the class were doing sport camps, so Branxton and Shaelee thought with it being softball season and both playing softball since they were in 10U that it would be a fun project for the pair. As SD high school softball has only been sanctioned for the past two seasons, Wagner Community School has never had a softball camp. The girls thought it would be a great idea to put on the first softball camp ever.
The only thing asked of the students who wished to participate was a registration form and to bring a glove and helmet. All other gear was provided by the school. The camp focused on teaching the fundamentals of softball. It was a huge success having 24 students from 1st grade through high school attend the event. As part of the assignment, Braxton and Shaelee afterwards had to do a power point on their project for the class.
