The Wagner Raider 7/8 basketball teams hosted the Tripp-Delmont/Armour Nighthawks for a pair of games at the Armory on Monday, January 30. In the 7th grade game, the Raiders got off to a fast start on offense and built a double-digit lead early in the game. They were able to maintain that lead into the half as they led 24-9. In the second half, the teams traded baskets as TDA wasn’t able to make a run at the Raiders. The final score saw the Raiders victorious 39-23. The win lifted their record to 5-3 on the season. Leading the way scoring was Steven Peters with 20, including 4 three pointers, Cruise Koupal added 11, Jacob Kotab had 4 and Payne Petry and Paxton Kuhlman each added 2.
The 8th grade game played out similar to the 7th grade game as the Raiders jumped out to a double digit lead before TDA was able to score. The Raiders rode that early momentum to a 20-7 halftime lead. Early in the second half, the Raiders extended their lead to over 20 as they turned up the defensive pressure and remained aggressive on offense. TDA made a couple of late baskets to pull a closer in the end as the Raiders prevailed by a score of 37-19. It was a well balanced scoring effort from the Raiders as Leon Fields led the team with 8 points, Carlos Galindo had 7, Benny Greger and AJ Kotab each had 6, Dominic Doom had 5, Avery Medicine Bear and Beau Otte each had 2 and Paxton Kuhlman rounded out the scoring with 1 point. The win raised their record to 9-0 on the season. Both teams travel to Gregory for games on Thursday.
