Both the JV and Varsity teams traveled to Parkston on Saturday, August 27th. The JV team came home with first place by defeating Parkston (25-17, 28-26), McCook Central/Montrose (25-20, 25-17), Warner (25-23, 20-25, 15-11), and Northwestern (24-26, 25-23, 15-5). The Varsity team went 3-1 defeating Parkston (25-22, 25-12), McCook/ Central/Montrose (25-16, 25-23), and Northwestern (24-26, 25-21, 25-20). Their only loss was to last year’s state B champion Warner (19-25, 17-25) . The girls put up a good fight and enjoyed the challenge from a respected program. Both JV and Varsity teams represented Wagner volleyball well and we are looking forward to an amazing season at all levels.

Leading the attack at the net for the varsity were hitters Emma Yost (24 kills), Avari Bruguier (22 kills), Kya Kjeldgaard (19 kills), Shona Kocer (15 kills), and Shalayne Nagel (14 kills). Junior setter Macy Koupal dished out 80 assists in the tournament. Racking up points/aces behind the service line were Nagel (26 points/5 aces), Kjeldgaard (18 points/3 aces), M. Koupal (17 points/6 aces), Madi Knebel (17 points/2 aces), E. Yost (15 points/4 aces) and Bruguier (10 points/3 aces). In the backcourt defensive players E. Yost (47 digs), Knebel (30 digs), Bruguier (27 digs), Nagel (22 digs), M. Koupal (17 digs) held their own against some big hitters. Up at the net blocking leaders were Kjeldgaard (8 blocks), Nagel (6 blocks), Kocer (6 blocks), E.Yost (4 blocks), Bruguier (3 blocks), and M. Koupal (3 blocks).

On the JV court, leading the tournament champs were hitters Ashlyn Koupal (42 kills), Aubrey Medricky (34 kills), Lydia Yost (8 kills), McKenzie Fuchs (7 kills), Brylie Link (5 kills), and Jessie Gutierrez (3 kills). Setters L. Yost and Braxton Nedved distributed 53 and 19 assists on the day. In the back row top defenders were A. Koupal (40 digs), A. Medricky (17 digs), and Hazel Jensen (13 digs). Earning stops up at the net were Fuchs (8 blocks), A. Medricky (4 blocks), A. Koupal (3 blocks), and Link (2 blocks).

Overall, the tournament was a great success! Congratulations to the Wagner JV girls for bringing home the hardware and Congratulations to senior outside hitter Emma Yost for earning All-Tournament Team honors.
