On Wednesday, July 2, Tyndall’s VFW 14U team traveled to Wagner to take our Post 7319 boys.
Things did not go well defensively for the home team as we turned what should have been a 1-2-3 first inning into a five unearned run mess as a dropped strike three, a misjudged fly ball, two walks and an error led to those runs. Colton Zephier was the pitcher during this inning and for twothirds of another. His final line would read nine runs given up with only one being earned. He allowed five hits and three walks as he struck out three. Austin DeVries then came on to finish the game. He went 1.1 innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks as Wagner would fall by a score of 11-1.
Jackson Woods had the only hit for Wagner along with a walk while Zephier, Mason Milk, and Ethan and Connor Gabel each walked and Jacob Kotab was plunked by a pitch.
In the second game of the evening Wagner would give up at least one run in every inning as they went down in defeat by a final tally of 8-6. Kotab got the start in this one and went 3.2 innings. He allowed seven runs, two earned, on three hits while walking three, hitting one and striking out six. Cooper Slaba finished things up as he went 1.1 innings. He allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks. He struck out one Tyndall batter.
After being down 7-0 going into the fourth inning, we would rally. Four runs were scored in that inning with the benefit of only one hit, that by Alex Reiter.
After Tyndall tacked on a run in the top of the fifth and final frame, Wagner would plate two runs on a big two-out opposite field single by Cooper Gene Kuhlman. DeVries then came up and tagged one over the left-fielder’s head to put the tying run on second base. Mason Milk would then come up and hit the ball sharply, but right at the third baseman to end the game.
Woods collected his second hit of the night in this game to go along with those by Reiter, DeVries, and Kuhlman.
