WAGNER TEENER'S BASEBALL RESULTS

By
Coach Matt Slaba

On Monday, June 5, Wagner’s Post 7319 Teeners played host to the Angels of Alexandria. The 14U team got things started. Steven Peters got his first start of the season. He lasted three innings giving up five runs, three of which were earned, on three hits while walking four and striking out seven.

Avery Medicine Bear then came on to pitch and only made it one-third of an inning. He got the first man to pop up, but then walked three and hit one. Javian Pesicka would come on to record the final two outs, giving up two unearned runs.

Wagner was quiet at the plate in this one as we would accumulate only three hits, two by Pesicka and one by Medicine Bear. Trey Segura would drive in one run on a ground out and Pesicka drove in one with a single. Pesicka, Medicine Bear, and Brannon Bruguier all scored one run for Wagner in the 11-3 loss.

The 16U team was up next and would try to get win number two. Joey Cournoyer started on the bump for Wagner. He went four innings giving up nine runs, seven earned, on twelve hits while walking one and striking out six. Joey was doing well but ran into trouble in the 4th inning as Alexandria would have six hits and plate seven runs in that frame.

Preston McFayden then came on in relief. He would pitch the final three innings giving up three earned runs on five hits while walking two, hitting one, and striking out two.

Pesicka and McFayden led the way at the plate as they each collected two hits with one of Mc-Fayden’s being a double. Javian would score two runs in this game while driving in three.

Frank Soukup would double and drive in two runs. Carter Cournoyer had a hit, an RBI, and scored one run. Daniel Soukup had one hit and scored twice. Tyler Aune would score twice while Brady Cournoyer and Edward Ulrich would score one run apiece.

Wagner would ultimately fall in this contest by a score of 12-10. Wagner would work 12 walks to go along with their seven hits, but too many men left on base did us in.

On Wednesday, June 7, Wagner’s VFW Post 7319 Teener teams took to The Pond in Parkston for two games.

Trey Segura would get the start on the mound for Wagner. He would pitch two plus innings. Trey allowed five earned runs on three hits while walking two, hitting one, and striking out one.

Javian Pesicka would come on the rest of the way. He would go three innings giving up one earned run on two hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts.

Wagner was led at the plate by Trasin Dilts who notched two hits and scored one run. Edward Ulrich and Paxton Kuhlman collected one hit apiece as they each knocked in a run.

Steven Peters, Avery Medicine Bear, and Weston Bierma each had one hit as well.

Segura, Medicine Bear, and Beau Otte would each score one run for Wagner as we would come up on the short end of a 6-4 score.

The 16U team would then take the field led by Carter Cournoyer who would be the starting pitcher for Wagner. He pitched 6.1 innings and pitched them quite well as he allowed three unearned runs on two hits. Carter walked three batters and sat down 11 Parkston hitters on strikes.

Wagner scored the first run in the top of the 2nd. Carter Cournoyer, who reached on sharp ground ball which ricocheted off the pitcher’s leg, would come around to score on a bases loaded walk by Edward Ulrich.

Parkston tied it up in the 4th inning as an attempted throw to catch a runner stealing third base ended up in left field.

Wagner took the lead back in the 6th inning with a clutch two out hit by Preston McFayden which scored Joey Cournoyer. We would then add on three insurance runs in the seventh. Three pinch hitters started things out by all reaching base. Landon Mudder walked. Steven Peters singled to right. Kysin Cook was hit by a pitch. Javian Pesicka then hit a fly ball which the right fielder was unable to coral, and two runners would score. Two more walks by Carter and Joey Cournoyer would plate the final run for Wagner.

Carter went back out for the bottom of the seventh. He would retire only one of the four batters he faced. Pesicka would then come on to shut the door as he got a ground out and a pop out to end the Parkston threat, giving Wagner a 5-3 victory.

Offensively for Wagner, McFayden would lead the way with two hits and an RBI as he continues to swing a hot bat. Frank Soukup, Carter Cournoyer, Daniel Soukup, and Steven Peters each contributed a hit.
