The Wagner boys varsity basketball team capped off a perfect night Tuesday in Alexandria, defeating Hanson 75–53 to complete a three-game sweep and improve to 12–2 on the season.
After a competitive opening quarter, Wagner took control by scoring 24 points in both the second and third quarters, opening up a comfortable lead heading into the final frame.
Ky Arpan turned in an outstanding all-around performance, leading the Raiders with 21 points and nine rebounds. Jesse Zephier added 14 points and dished out five assists, while Carlos Galindo finished with 12 points and four steals.
Colton Zephier, Michael Koupal, and Payne Petry each scored six points, with Koupal also pulling down seven rebounds. Leon Fields scored four points, Jakhi Tiger added three, Jackson Woods finished with two, and Avery Medicine Bear rounded out the scoring with one.
The Wagner junior varsity followed with a dominant defensive performance, doubling up Hanson 36–18.
Wagner set the tone early and completely shut down the Beavers in the second quarter, holding Hanson scoreless during the period. The Raiders allowed just eight points in the second half as they cruised to the win.
Colton Zephier paced Wagner with 14 points, while Payne Petry finished with 11. Ron Knudsen added six points, and Avery Medicine Bear chipped in five.
C TEAM EARNS SEVENTH WIN IN 29–22 VICTORY
The Wagner C team opened the night on a strong note Tuesday in Alexandria, earning its seventh win of the season with a 29–22 victory over Hanson.
Wagner built enough separation throughout the contest to hold off the Beavers down the stretch. Ron Knudsen led all scorers with 12 points, while Ryan Gullickson added 10. Conner Gabel chipped in three points, and Bailer Lhotak and Russell Standing Cloud each finished with two.
