WAGNER TAKES ON #1 CENTERVILLE AT MINI-HANSON CLASSIC

By
Coach Michael Koupal

After a much anticipated wait due to Old Man Winter, the Lady Raiders and Lady Tornado’s finally got to meet up at the Corn Palace last Friday night which featured 3 games from the Hanson Classic that was postponed on January 13th. Wagner was suppose to play class B #3 Lyman but due to scheduling conflicts, a match up with #1 Centerville was scheduled as a replacement. Wagner would jump out to an early 6-0 lead and take a 13-4 lead into the second. Wagner would hold a 24-13 advantage late in the second only to find Centerville close the half on a 9-0 run to get with in 2 points 24-22 Wagner at the half. The Raiders would come out and win the 3rd quarter out scoring the Tornado’s 19-17 and taking a 43-39 into the 4th. Wagner’s lead would grow to as much as 11 late in the 4th as Wagne would win 57-50. Wagne would shoot 22-40 for 54% while Centerville would go 18-49 for 37%. Wagner would own the glass with a 29-21 advantage. Wagner would commit 13 turnovers compared to 10 from Centerville. Ashlyn Koupal would post a triple-double with 28 points, 16 rebounds, 10 blocks, and 6 assists. Lydia Yost would net 11 points, grab 4 boards, and dish out 2 assists. Macy Koupal would be the third Raider in double figures with 10 points, 6 boards, and 2 assists. Hayden Fischer would finish with 8 points and dish out 5 assists. Braxton Nedved would grab 2 boards and dish out 3 assists. “What a great effort by our girls just finishing on the offensive end and then shutting down scorers in the second half. We had a two minute lull to end the first half where we turned it over and gave them some easy transition looks where in stead we make them score in the half court we might be able to stretch the lead early in the third. We held our composer and hit free throws down the stretch. This was a very good team and with the limited number of practice we had the past two weeks we played a very efficient game.”
