The Lady Raiders hosted the Scotland/Menno Trappers last Thursday night in girls basketball action. Wagner’s shooting would start off kind of cold the first half getting quite a few good looks but the ball just wouldn’t fall through the cylinder. Defensively the Raiders would continue to shut down their opponents allowing 8 total first half points to take a 30-8 lead into the half. Wagner would allow 8 points in the third quarter but then shut out the Trappers in the 4th to claim a 66-16 victory. Ashlyn Koupal recorded a triple-double with 28 points, 12 boards, 10 blocks, 5 steals and 4 assists. Mateya Bruguier would hit the double figure mark with 10 points, 4 assists, 2 boards, and 2 steals. Hayden Knudsen would add 9 points, 3 boards, 4 steals and dish out 3 assists. Mila Hopkins would round out the scoring with 2 points, 2 boards and 2 assists. Overall the Raider would shoot 26-54 for 48% while holding the trappers to 7-40 for 18%. Wagner once again dominated the glass with a 39-17 margin while committing 13 turnovers compared to 23 from the Trappers. “We started off slow the first half missing lots of good looks. We shot only 41% the first half so we did a much better job of finishing shots in the second half to bring that up to 48%. Defensively we did another great job of challenging and contesting shots, limiting them to 1 shot per possession. It was nice to see a lot of the younger kids get thrown into the fire tonight. Great opportunities for them to see what they have to do to play even at a higher level. We now enter the last 1/3 of the regular season. Need to keep getting a little better every game.”
