WAGNER STUDENTS HIT THE RIGHT NOTE AT KIMBALL CONTEST

Fourteen Wagner HS Choir Students competed at Vocal Solo/Ensemble Contest in Kimball on Wednesday, February 4th. We had 9 events which featured 5 Solos, 2 Duets, 1 Quartet, and 1 Small Ensemble singing to receive a rating. Superiors are the highest rating you can receive, followed by Excellent, Good, and Below Average. Here are the results: Freshmen Ethan Gabel and Tegan Langdeaux received Superior ratings for their Solos of “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” and “The Water is Wide.” Out of 30 possible points, Ethan scored 28 and Tegan 26.

Sophomore Hannah Holzbauer and Freshmen Julia Krug and Portlyn Jones received Excellent Ratings for their Solos of “Danny Boy”, “Star Vicino”, and “Simple Gifts.” Out of 30 possible points, Hannah scored 25, Julia 21, and Portlyn 22.

Tegan Langdeaux and Julia Krug sang a duet together of “Homeward Bound.” Out of 35 possible points, they scored a 30 which was 1 point away from a Superior, receiving an Excellent. Hannah Holzbauer sang a duet as well with Junior Ravyn Medricky of “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” which also received a 30 for an Excellent Rating.

Tegan and Julia also sang as part of a Quartet with fellow Freshmen McKinley Podzimek and Bella Kotab. They sang “Shenandoah” which received an Excellent rating of 28 out of 35.

The Tenor/Bass Ensemble feature Freshmen Portlyn Jones, Alex Reiter, Walter Peters, Draylin Dilts, Wesley Holzbauer, Ethan and Connor Gabel and Sophomore Samuel Kafka. They sang the song called “Poor Boy” which received a Superior Rating of 31 out of 35.

“I’m very proud of how all the students performed. We had some of our best performances and had a couple moments where we overcomed some nerve issues at the beginning of songs to push through and sing well,” Choir Director Austin Genzlinger said. A few of these events will be singing at the Spring Concert on Thursday, April 30th. Hope to see you there!
