The Wagner Red Raiders headed to Gayville on Saturday April 6 for a triangular with Gayville-Volin and Hanson It was a windy battle and the girls fought hard but came up short losing 4-2 in 5 innings against Gayville-Volin.
Lydia Yost was in the circle for Wagner striking out seven and walking none.
To start off the first, Libby Kotab singles on a bunt and steals her way to second. Ravyn Medricky also reaches first with a single, but the inning ended with ladies left on base. Gayville-Volin got on the board in the first inning, scoring one run. In the top of the second Brylie Link singled, but was left on base. Wagner fought back in the top of the third when Hannah Holzbauer hit a hard line drive up the middle. After H. Holzbauer stole second, L Yost’s base hit advanced Holzbauer to third. Due to Gayville-Volin’s error in the throw to first, Holzbauer stole home and Yost reached second. L Yost stole third on a passed ball behind the plate and scored run number two with a sacrifice hit by Sydney Cournoyer.
Gayville-Volin responds with two more runs in the bottom of the third, taking the lead by two. Great defense was played by both teams to end the game resulting in a loss for the Wagner Red Raiders. The ladies played as a team and fought until the end.
In the second game of the day the Wagner Red Raiders took on the Hanson Beaverettes coming out on top 3-1.
L. Yost was in the circle for the Red Raiders, striking out seven and walking only three. Our defense stood their ground leaving bases loaded for Hanson twice, only allowing one run to be scored in the bottom of the fifth. L. Yost set the tone on offence with a triple, double, and scoring one. Ravyn Medricky’s hard hit single brought in Yost bring the score 1-0. B Link and Kayden Zephier both contributed with a base hit, but Hanson’s strong defense left them on base. In the top of the fourth, Mia Dion drew a walk followed by Holzbauer hitting a single to get on base. Dion and Holzbauer stole one base a piece and scored off Sydney Cournoyer’s triple to center. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate bringing home the victory. With two games under the Raider’s belt, they showed how well they can play together as a team.
