WAGNER SPEEDWAY SET TO OPEN WITH FULL SCHEDULE

By
Rod Pattison

Officials at Wagner Speedway are excited to announce the 2020 season will be held. After much discussion and dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, it's race time. With the developments of the past 24 hours, the dream of racing this summer will come to fruition.

Wagner Speedway General Manager Rod Pattison is ecstatic and very appreciative of local and state officials for their leadership in this difficult time. "I would like to sincerely thank the Wagner City Council and Governor Kristi Noem for their tireless work during this difficult time. City officials had a difficult decision to make at a difficult time and they did a great job. Now, with the Governor's "Back To Normal" plan in place, city leaders have given us their blessing to open for business this season. We had the ability to open up sooner than our scheduled date, but we wanted to give extra time for this situation to hopefully subside, but we are very thankful and excited to go racing!!!"

The season was scheduled to begin on May 22nd, but the uncertainty of how the Corona virus situation would play out, the season will now begin with a car show and test and tune on Saturday, June 6th and the season opener slated for Friday, June 12th, with the understanding that things could change, depending on society and how the pandemic is progressing or regressing. (Details will be coming soon on the car show and test and tune with location of show and times for both.)

Two scheduled nights that were to have no races have now been filled and the annual Wagner Labor Day celebration will have races on both Friday, September 4th and Season Championship night to be Monday, September 7th. The Tri-State Late Model Series show that was to be held on May 29th has been rescheduled for Friday, July 31st, plus there have been a few modifications to what classes will run on which nights. Please see full schedule below.

We have also assured local officials that we will work very hard to provide the safest environment possible and adhere to guidelines and recommendations that are in place at that particular time. Our concession management team of Amy Beeson and Mary Ann Rucktaeschel will take every precaution possible to insure safety in our food and beverage service and our ownership and management team are committed to making a night at the track the safest and the best it can possibly be.

As many of you have seen on social media, we are working very hard to make the facility even better than before with reshaping of the track, reinforcing and adding onto the front stretch catch fence, improving the front stretch retaining wall and other face lifts to make Wagner Speedway the best possible.

For more information, keep watching our Facebook page for updates on progress and announcements of promotions and special events leading up to the 2020 season.

On behalf of all of us at the track, we appreciate your support during this difficult time and we look forward to the season.
