WAGNER SCHOOL PARTICIPATES IN READ FOR THE RECORD

By
Brenda Dehaan

In an attempt to break the world record for the most people reading the same book on the same day, over 300 Wagner Community School students and staff read Maybe Something Beautiful by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell and illustrated by Rafael López. The book was based on a true story in San Diego.

This 13th annual reading event was held on October 25. The book was available online for a limited time, so students were able to read together on the Smart Board or individually on a computer. Reading partnerships have formed where classes of older students have paired up with younger students for different reading events or to just read together each week.

Numbers are still being tallied by Jumpstart, the sponsor of the reading challenge. The current world reading record was set in 2013 with 2,462,860 reading the same book, according to Jump-start.
