WAGNER PUBLIC LIBRARY RECEIVES GRANT

By

The Wagner Library was awarded a $10,000 CARES Grant through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act economic stabilization plan. This plan was funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and administered by the South Dakota Humanities Council.

The grant funds are enabling us to bring our technology service in line with the 21st century. We will be better able to serve the changing needs of library patrons, but at the same time maintain traditional library services for those still wanting to pick a book off the shelf, flip pages and use their bookmarks. It isn’t out with the old, in with the new; it will be a blending of the old with the new. We will have more to offer a wider range of patrons and every patron can select the service that best suits their style.

We are in the process of going to an on-line automated system. We purchased a 100% web based program through Atriuum. The Wagner School and South Dakota State Library also use this program. All library materials are being entered on this program, so patrons will soon be able to search our Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) from their own Internet device. All patron cards are being entered into the system as well; this will allow us to do a computerized checkout system.

We are also pleased to announce that we have purchased membership in the South Dakota Titles To Go (SDTTG) consortium operated by OverDrive. This membership will allow library patrons access to a virtual library of 20,000 popular fiction, nonfiction, children, and teen books, audios and magazines.

Patrons will be able to load virtual materials on their own Internet connected devices. Patrons can download the free Libby or OverDrive app, and use phones, computers, tablets, ipads or Kindles to do their virtual reading.

Patrons need to have a valid library card to utilize the service. Current patrons will be asked to update their cards, return all past due items and settle all fines prior to being issued login information.

New patrons need to come in with current ID and set up a card prior to being issued their login information.

Detailed Information for getting started with our virtual library is available at the library. We are here Monday-Friday from 9:00 to 5:00. Please use the east entrance.

During the automation process we are doing some spring-cleaning. Stop in and see the selection of free and sale books we have to offer. We appreciate your understanding as we get the new systems up and going. It will be a work in process for a while as we learn to navigate the system and learn what all it has to offer our patrons.

Thank you to the South Dakota Humanities for funding this project. The grant money has afforded us the opportunity to be a more effective, well-resourced library to the Wagner Community.
