On Saturday August 30th the Lady Red Raiders traveled to Parkston to compete. The JV team came home with the hardware and competed well. The varsity team went 2-2 and saw some great competition. Overall, the girls played hard and represented Wagner Volleyball well.
On the varsity court Wagner faced Parkston first and picked up the win with scores of 21-25, 25-22, and 25-23. Next, they played Hill City and lost a close one with scores of 25-19, 23-25, and 20-25. On the third match of the day, they faced a dominant Warner team and battled hard but came up short with scores of 20-25 and 23-25. And the last match of the day was against Kimball/White Lake and they picked up the win with scores of 25-15 and 25-17.
Overall on the day senior outside hitter Ashlyn Koupal led with 32 kills, junior middle hitter Ravyn Medricky earned 26, and sophomore outstide Hannah Holzbauer added 20. Sophmore setter Braxton Nedved dished out 92 assists on the day. Defensive leaders were senior libero Libby Kotab with 42 digs, Medricky picked up 31, Nedved scrapped for 30, Holzbauer added 28, and Hayden Knudsen had 22. At the service line Nedved led all servers with 33 points/8 aces, Brylie Link added 32 points/2 aces, Holzbauer earned 19 points/4 aces and Medricky had 16 points/2 aces. Koupal led all blockers with 5, Medricky and Link each added 4, Brianna Fuchs put up 3, and Holzbauer had 2.
On the JV court the Lady Red Raiders faced a tough Warner team and came away on top with scores of 25-13, 19-25, and 17-15. Next, they faced Kimball/White Lake and tallied another win with scores of 25-12, 18-25, and 15-5. The third match of the day they faced Parkston and defeated them 27-25 and 25-9. The final match to seal the hardware was against Hill City with scores of 25-19 and 25-14.
Leaders at the net were Adara Hopkins with 18 kills, Mila Hopkins threw down 15, Camry Link added 15, and Kylin Insko had 10. Setter duo Insko and M. Hopkins dished out 27 and 16 assists respectively. A. Hopkins led the defense scrapping for 32 digs, C. Link picked up 19, Mateya Bruguier scrambled for 16, Insko added 14, and M. Hopkins had 11. Behind the service line Insko led all servers with 34 points/14 aces, A. Hopkins tallied 29 points/10 aces, Izzy Myer added 20 points/8 aces, C. Link had 17 points/7 aces, M. Bruguier had 16 points/7 aces, and M. Hopkins had 12 points/5 aces. Ashytyn Bruguier put up 4 blocks on the day.
