WAGNER HOSTS THE 79ERS

By

On Tuesday, June 10, Wagner’s Post 11 Junior and Senior Legion teams played host to the 79ers from Canistota-Freeman- Scotland-Menno.

The juniors took the field first and got off to a good start, using six walks, three hits, and one hit by pitch to score seven runs in the first inning. That wasn’t enough, however, as Wagner would allow 13 runs to drop the game by a 13-7 count.

Dominic Doom started on the mound for Wagner and pitched well. He went 5.1 innings and gave up five runs, three earned, on four hits while walking three and striking out six. The bullpen couldn’t hold things down though, as the combination of Trey Segura, Avery Medicine Bear, and Trasin Dilts allowed eight earned runs on three hits with five walks and three hit batsmen.

Wagner would hit the ball in this game as Dilts, Medicine Bear, and Jamian Medicine Horn each hit a double with Medicine Horn driving in two with his. Doom and Beau Otte each had one hit and one run scored. Edward Ulrich and Colton Zephier each had a hit, RBI, and run scored. Paxton Kuhlman recorded one hit while Segura walked and scored a run.

In the second game Wagner fell behind early as the 79ers used three hits, including two triples, a walk and a hit batsman to take a 4-0 lead. The home team would answer back with a run in the bottom half of the 1st as Edward Ulrich scored on a two-out double by Carter Cournoyer.

In the bottom of the 2nd Wagner would take the lead with four runs of their own. Ulrich and Joey Cournoyer had the big blows in this inning as Ulrich singled to drive in a pair and Cournoyer doubled to do the same.

The visitors would tie the score with a solo home run the following inning. In the top of the 5th C-F-S-M would retake the lead after a fly ball was lost in the gloaming to plate one run. Beau Otte would get an RBI on bases loaded walk to knot things back up in the bottom of the inning.

In the home half of the 6th Wagner took advantage of some erratic pitching as they used three walks and three hit batsmen to accumulate three runs. That would prove to be the difference in the game as the senior legion team improved their record to 4-0.

Frank Soukup started the game and after a rocky first inning settled in nicely as he went five innings. He allowed six earned runs on eight hits while walking two, hitting one, and striking out eight. Brady Cournoyer would earn the win as he pitched two scoreless frames. He did walk two batters but otherwise gave up no hits.

There were only four hits for Wagner as Ulrich collected two singles, two RBI, and scored twice. Joey Cournoyer had his double, two RBI and scored once. Carter Cournoyer doubled, scored, and drove in one. Otte, Soukup, and Landon Mudder each scored a run and had one RBI. Malakai Segura walked and scored twice.
