With a trip to the SoDak 16 on the line the Lady Raiders hosted the MVP Titans this past Saturday in girls basketball action. The first quarter would be like a heavy weight fight, both teams getting a feel for one another. Once the second quarter started the Lady Raiders put their feet on the gas pedal and never let up out scoring the Titans 63-27. Wagner would advance to the Sodak 16 with a 7336 victory. Wagner would scorch the nets shooting 55%, 28 for 51 from the floor while holding the Titans to 31% 14-45. Both teams would commit 10 turnovers. Unlike the first match-up earlier this year where the Raiders held a 1 advantage, today they out rebounded the Titans 39-16. Shalayne Nagel led all scorers with 25 points, 6 boards, 8 assists, 2 blocks, and 4 steals. Emma Yost would record yet another double-double with 15 points, 10 boards, and 3 assists. Ashlyn Koupal would add 13 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Macy Koupal would be the 4th Raider in double figures with 11 points, 6 boards, and 6 assists. Eve Zephier would add another 6 points, 3 boards, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Lydia Yost would round out the scoring with 3 points and 6 boards. “Just another great team win by our young ladies! We needed to win the rebound battle and we crushed it! We needed to get post touches and then look for people slashing to the rim and we executed that very well. We wanted to push the tempo to get touches early to our posts before the help came and that was key to us starting our run in the second quarter. They then really packed it in the paint and that’s were we connected on 4 of our 8 made 2 pointers. To put up 73 points in a game and only score 10 in the first quarter is just awesome! We just need to focus now on the next big game whomever it may be, get ourselves mentally ready to go and then come out and execute!”
