WAGNER HOST MT. VERNON PLANKINTON

By

The Lady Raiders ran into a buzz saw last Tuesday night in girls basketball action. The Titans would jump out to any early 6-2 lead and extend the lead to 38-19 at the half. Wagner would cut it back down to 10 early in the 4th but wouldn’t be able to overcome the deficit and fall 45-59. The Titans would shoot nearly 65% from the field the first half but the Raiders would play much better defense the second half to allow the Titans to shoot only 45% for the game. Wagner would only shoot 32% the first half and end the game at 39%. The Titans would dominate the glass our rebounding Wagner 32-18. Macy Koupal would lead Wagner 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Ashlyn Koupal would net 12 points, grab 6 boards, block 5 shots and dish out 2 assists. Braxton Nedved would finish with 5 points and 3 assists. Hayden Knudsen and Lydia Yost would both round out the scoring with 3 points. Hayden would grab 4 boards and dish out 2 assists. Lydia would have a team high 3 steals. “Offensively we never got in a rhythm. Early in the game we took a lot of open looks early in the shot clock but didn’t convert where they did on the other end. Once we started to attack the basket and force them to play defense we started to get things clicking offensively. We can’t allow 38 points to open up a half. They hit some tough shots but we didn’t have any help on drives where we should have. The second half we did a much better job containing their scorers. We also can’t get out rebounded like we did. We gave them a lot of second chance points the first half. We have to do a better job of boxing out.”

The JV was defeated 15-43. Mateya Bruguier led Wagner with 5 points. Hannah Holzbauer and Rico Fischer each added 4 and Brooklin Nielsen finished with 2 points.
