There are five members of the Wagner Community School fall golf team. The team includes sophomore Carter Smejkal, freshmen Avery Medicine Bear and Paxton Kuhlman and seventh graders Kason Jonas and Dakota Charging Eagle. Carter Smejkal will be relied upon in a leadership role because of his experience. They are coached by Chris Kuca who is in his second year of coaching. This is only the second year of fall golf, so they are still working on building a program. Last season the golf team ended the year with six golfers.
Kuca’s goals for this season are for his team to continue to improve individually and as a team as the season proceeds and to become competitive in tournaments. The Vermillion Invitational will probably be the toughest test for the golfers this season. Coach Kuca feels that to be successful in this game, a golfer needs to understand the ups and downs of golf in order to become a mentally resilient player. Kuca looks forward to getting more students involved in golf and to help the golfers develop a life-long passion for the game.
