WAGNER FALLS TO ETHAN

By
Coach Michael Koupal

The Lady Raiders hosted the Ethan Rustlers last Thursday night in girls basketball action.

Wagner started off quick again holding a 10-5 edge midway through the first period but Ethan converted twice from behind the arc to take a 11-10 lead. Wagner found themselves trailing at the half 39-25 and eventually would fall 61-49.

Wagner shot 18-43 for 42% while the Rustlers hit 23-43 for 54%. Both teams were 7-10 from the charity stripe. Wagner commited 14 turnovers compared to 13 from Ethan.

Macy Koupal led all scorers netting 22 all in the second half, while also grabbing a team high 6 boards and dishing out 5 assists. Braxton Nedved added 9 points, grabbed 5 boards and dished out 2 assists. Ashlyn Koupal finished with 8 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists. Hayden Fischer had 4 points and 3 boards. Lydia Yost finished with 3 points, 3, boards, 5 assists and two blocks. Rico Fischer rounded out the scoring with 3 points.

“This was not a great night for us defensively. They are a good team and their shooters were on. They hit open looks about every time we were out of position. Offensively we struggled in the second quarter to get anything only coming up with 7 points. They are a team that plays lots of junk defenses and slow the game way down. We just were ready to know shots down in rhythm. We only had a few transition opportunities and we scored on all of them. The second half we were more aggressive getting to the rim and that will need to be something we continue to do. This was a really good game for us even though it was a loss. It shows us some areas of improvement on the defensive end and also what we need to do as a team and individuals on the offensive end.”

JV Team Results

The JV team was defeated 18-31. Olivia Podzimek and Katrina Zephier led the Raider each with 4 points. Hannah Holzbauer finished with 3. Rico Fischer, TyShay Medicine Bear and Stephanie Atencio each finished with 2. Mateya Bruguier rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
