WAGNER EVENT TO APPEAR IN SOUTH DAKOTA MAGAZINE
All eyes will be on Wagner for the upcoming special event known as the “605 Unity JAM that is set for Sunday, June 11 at the Wagner Lake Park in Wagner. This event is in it’s third year of development and information about the event will be listed in the “South Dakota Magazine” during the May/June addition. The magazine has over 165,000 magazine subscribers who will possibly see the name of Wagner for the first time. The magazine has subscribers all over the United States, Canada and Europe. It has been stated that 3-4 additional people also read this magazine, in addition to the subscriber and this will in turn eventually reach about 500,000 people world wide. It has been stated that people often plan their vacations trip to include places to see and things to do in South Dakota. We will want people to be glad they stopped!
The event will feature something positive activities for the entire family, along with great music, cultural presentations, arts and crafts and great food. The day will include a Youth Pow Wow, Wagner Lake Unity Walk, a Cardboard Box Boat Regatta, Czech Kolache Eating Contest, Arts/Crafts and Food Trucks, a Variety of Musicians and Entertainers, Youth Fishing Clinic and Fishing Derby, Cultural Presentations and Demonstrations.
The purpose of the event is to: Invite our community to work together, to create an activity for everyone to feel welcome, to show case Wagner Lake and the Unity Buffalo, to build positive relationships locally and between communities, to build partnerships within the community that requires active involvement, to create a sense of community with local businesses, organizations and volunteers and to increase cultural awareness, understanding, acceptance and appreciation for all cultures.
The event would like to feature our elders as story tellers, who can share their memories of their child hood and the life of their family in our community. If you are an elder in our community and are willing to share your memories while sitting on Wagner Lake Gazebo with a small group listening to you for about 25 minutes, please give Dana Sanderson at (605-491-0804) and give a call to say you would enjoy sharing your experiences. Remember, this event is free and all you have to do is being a lawn chair to sit on to enjoy the day!
