This week’s WCS Senior spotlight highlights Owen Bekanich. He is the son of Susan May Gullikson. Owen has many nicknames including Owenator, Owenski, Owee, O1, ON, and Bumber. During his years at WCS, Owen has been involved in many extra-curricular activities including band (four years), cross-country (one year), track (four years), FFA (two years), wrestling (three years), football (three years), chorus (one year), and swimming (three years).

Owen’s advice to underclassmen is to stay focused and never let others put you down; you will always have to work hard for what you want. His favorite high school memory was during junior year in football when he made the most hyped speech a day before the game against AC/DC. Owen’s pet peeve is having slow internet when trying to get an assignment done. Owen admires many people in his life. He admires Vince Bechen because as a peer and friend he has helped Owen grow and become a better man; he admires Nick Dion because he has helped Owen on his journey to becoming closer to God and spread happiness to his heart. Owen admires Patrick Belling and Mieke Slaba because they have cared a lot about him and David Goggins because his motivations have inspired Owen to work hard at everything.

Owen’s favorite color is green and his favorite class is PE. Mr. Cartney is his favorite teacher. His favorite band is Cold Play and favorite singer is Eminem. Chris Hemsworth and Avengers: Infinity War are his favorite actor and movie respectively. His favorite TV show is Attack on Titan. Quick steak and King Buffet are his favorite food and restaurant. When Owen is not busy with school or extra-curricular activities he enjoys working out, star gazing, listening to music and playing video games.

After graduation, Owen plans to become active duty in the Army and after a few years of serving the country would like to attend technical college for carpentry.
