Wagner Community School welcomes new JAG Specialist and Senior English teacher, Amy Petrik for the 2024-2025 school year. Amy is originally from Spencer, IA. She has been teaching for the past eight years. In those eight years she has taught grades seventh through twelfth grade Family and Consumer Sciences, History, English and JAG. Before joining the WCS team, Amy had been working at Andes Central as the Family and Consumer Science teacher. When asked what made her want to become a part of Wagner’s educational staff, she said that the school has so much to offer for the students and WCS really values their employees.
Amy has known since she was in elementary school that she wanted to become a teacher. Her second-grade teacher and High School math teacher impacted her life in so many ways and served as positive role models for Amy, leading her to want to do the same for students. What Amy is most looking forward to this year in her classroom are all of the opportunities and events that her students will get to experience. Goals for Amy’s first year of teaching at WCS are to make sure that all of her kids know that they have someone who cares about them and that they are in control of their future as well as their own goals. Another goal for Amy’s classroom is to make sure that she provides her students with experiences that will help prepare them for their post-secondary education plans. In addition to her teaching, she will also be the JAG advisor.
Amy and her husband, Grant have two young children: Jackson (4) and Raegan (2). The family also has several fur babies including two dogs (Bane and Oakley) and four cats (Bella, Otis, Blue and Coco). In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and cycling. One item on Amy’s bucket list is to visit Australia and New Zealand.
Welcome to WCS, Amy. We hope you have an amazing year!
