WAGNER COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FUNDS APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE NEW REQUIREMENT – 501C STATUS

By

The Wagner Area Foundation is happy to announce they will again be accepting applications for 2019 from eligible participants now through May 31, 2019.

In 2019, the Wagner Area Foundation will have to document that organizations receiving local foundation grants are verified by the Internal Revenue service as having 501C status. IRS requirements now stipulate that all grants given by local foundations be given only to non-profit organizations verified by the IRS. Applications will now include an area to show the tax identification number.

Governmental entities such as cities, counties and schools, as well as churches, are exempt from the verification requirements and do qualify to receive grant funding. Small non-profit organizations that are not IRS verified will need to contact one that is IRS qualified for assistance in applying for grants.

This is the fourteenth year the Foundation has accepted applications. Last year the Foundation awarded approximately $12,000 among the following recipients.

2018 Recipients
Boys & Girls Club of the Missouri River Area
Boys & Girls Club – Wagner Girls Softball
Boys & Girls Club – PeeWee/Midget Baseball
Dakota Senior Meals Program
Wagner Waves Swim Team
Wagner Cub Scout Pack
Wagner Area Growth, Inc., a SD Non-profit Corporation
Parkview Villa, Inc., a SD Non-profit Corporation

These funds are only made available by the contributions made by the residents and friends of Wagner. Currently, the Wagner Area Foundation fund has a balance in excess of $238,000 as of March 31, 2019.

The Wagner Area Foundation has awarded grants totaling $89,674 to local non-profit groups and programs since its inception. As this amount continues to grow, the grant awards will continue to grow to our local community and surrounding area.

The principal balance of the foundation funds will never be used. Therefore, your contribution to the Wagner Area Foundation fund will continue to be used forever. The purpose of the Foundation is to act as a perpetual savings account for the Wagner area.

There has been continued interest in the Wagner Area Foundation 12 x 12 Builders Club. This is a program that you may have as little as $12 in contribution made each month to the foundation which is directly withdrawn from a checking or savings account at your bank. This is a onetime signature and pledge with a lifetime of giving back to your community. The 12 x 12 Club applications may be printed from the Wagner Area Foundation website at http:// wagner.sdcommunityfoundation.org or picked up at Commercial State Bank or Wipf & Cotton Law Offices.

Grant applications may be picked up at Commercial State Bank or Wipf & Cotton Law Offices. All applications should be returned to the Wagner Area Foundation registered office, which is Wipf & Cotton Law Offices, located at 107 S. Main Ave., Wagner, SD 57380, or be mailed to PO Box 370, Wagner, SD 57380. Deadline for applications being received by the Wagner Area Foundation will be by 5:00 o’clock p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019.
