The Wagner boys basketball team jumped out to an early lead and nnever looked back Tuesday night, defeating Bon Homme 77-42 in the opening round of the Region 5A tournament.

Wagner set the tone early, building a 20-9 advantage by the end of the fifirst quarter. The Red Raiders continued to extend their lead in the second period and took a commanding 40-18 lead into halftime.

Strong defense and solid rebounding helped Wagner maintain control throughout the game. Jesse Zephier led the Red Raiders with a season-high 31 points, the most scored by a Wagner player in a game this season. Zephier also contributed fifive rebounds, six assists and fifive steals in the win.

Ky Arpan added 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Carlos Galindo fifinished with 10 points and tied a school record with 10 assists.

Michael Koupal scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Jakhi Tiger added fifive points, Leon Fields scored four, and Payne Petry finished with two points.

The Wagner boys basketball team defeated Parker/Marion Friday night to advance to the SODak 16. The boys got up 40-20 in the first half and led by 16 at half time. Wagner held off a late charge by the Pheasants and held on to win the game 74-58. Ky Arpan had another great game, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Jesse Zephier scored 21 points, had 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Carlos Galindo scored 16 points, had 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Colton Zephier scored 8 points, Michael Koupal scored 5 points, had 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Leon Fields scored 2 points and had a team high 5 assists.
