WAGNER BATTLES BUT CAN’T OVERCOME SECOND-HALF SURGE

By

The Wagner varsity boys showed resilience Tuesday night but came up short in a 54-43 loss to the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks in Woonsocket. Wagner fell behind 11-4 early in the first quarter before responding with a strong run following a timeout. The Raiders battled back to take a 16-15 lead into the second quarter.

The teams remained close throughout the first half, with Wagner trailing just 30-28 at the break. However, the Blackhawks used a strong third quarter to extend their lead to 45-33 heading into the final period. Wagner continued to compete but was unable to regain the lead in the second half.

Carlos Galindo paced the Raiders with 20 points and five rebounds. Jesse Zephier added 12 points along with six rebounds, five steals and three assists in an all-around effort. Michael Koupal contributed five points, grabbed six rebounds and drew a charge. Jackson Woods scored four points, while Ky Arpan added two points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
