WAGNER 14U AND 16U AGAINST CORISCA

By
Coach Matt Slaba

The Wagner Post 7319 VFW 14U and 16U Teener teams started their seasons this week with games in Corsica.

As usual the 14U team started out first and would fall to the home team by a 4-1 score. Cruise Koupal started on the mound. It’s always a big adjustment for the boys going from the softball field to the big baseball diamond and pitching off the mound. Our boys did a respectable job on this day. Cruise went two innings giving up two earned runs on three hits while walking two, hitting one, and striking out four.

Edward Ulrich pitched the final two frames. He also allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on two hits while walking four and striking out three.

Wagner collected just four hits on the night by two different players as Javian Pesicka and Steven Peters would each rap out a couple of singles. Pesicka scored in the first inning on a wild pitch to account for Wagner’s only run.

In the 16U game, Brady Cournoyer would take the mound for their season opener. Brady was in control the entire game as he pitched a complete game shutout. While going the distance he allowed only four hits while walking two and striking out seven as Wagner would claim a 6-0 victory. The defense played well behind him, committing only one error on the night.

Brady’s older brother and battery mate on this night led the way at the plate as Joey accounted for two hits including a double and would knock in two runs. Pesicka had two RBI as well despite not having a hit in this game as he hit one sacrifice fly and collected one bases loaded walk. Frank Soukup, Carter Cournoyer, and Dominic Doom each had one hit with Soukup’s being a double. Doom would collect an RBI with his opposite field single. Brady Cournoyer also drove in one with a groundout.
