There will be a W Club event at Two Spurs on Thursday, November 19. This will serve as an informational meeting and a donation drive for the W Club. Anyone interested in learning more about the W Club is welcome to attend this event.
The W Club is a new organization that was created to help fund the school’s extracurricular activities. The club helps finance sixteen different organizations that our students take part in- Football, Cross Country, Volleyball, Competitive Cheer, Oral Interp, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Boys and Girls Basketball, Track, Softball, HOSA, JAG, Activities Council, Golf, and National Honor Society all benefit from the W Club.
The Wagner Community School does an excellent job providing for these programs, and the money collected by the W Club helps pay for things to enhance our students’ experiences. Some of the items the W Club funds pay for are: fees for summer and off season camps, food for our students who leave school early for away events, summer camp uniforms, entry fees for our elementary students to participate in tournaments, coaches to attend clinics, team building activities, volunteer coaches, gas money for extra out of season travel and many more items/experiences. Wagner Community School students get benefits from the W Club that students in most other schools do not.
The purpose of the W Club is to help finance all the activities listed above without the need for fundraising. We have already received tremendous support from our local businesses for the W Club. The event at Two Spurs on Thursday, November 19 at 7 p.m. is an opportunity for our community to support the extracurricular programs our school district offers. When our students were fundraising for individual sports, friends and families spent money on what was being sold, and the programs only got a portion of that money, as most of it goes back to the company. With a W Club donation, one hundred percent of the money goes to the extracurricular programs.
At the end of last school year, our coaches and organizational leaders were asked to plan a budget for the activity they oversee. All those budgets were then combined, and that total number was the W Club’s collection goal. We are currently about $2,000 short of our goal. The W Club is hoping the friends and families of our student athletes can help raise that amount of money and help us reach our goal.
If you have any questions about the W Club or if you want to donate, please come to Two Spurs at 7 p.m. on November 19. If you cannot attend the event, contact Josh Davies at 605-770-9780 or email josh.davies@k12.sd.us.
