VETERAN FLU SHOTS AVAILABLE

By
Veterans Service Officer Jerry Seiner

The flu season will be upon us before we know it. The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is set to provide veterans with the vaccine. There are several options available for veterans this year.

For veterans with an appointment at the Sioux Falls VA medical center or a VA Community Clinic, the flu vaccine is available at any pre-scheduled appointment.

If you don’t have an upcoming scheduled appointment at the VA and you would like your flu shot, drive up flu shots are available. Drive up flu clinics will be offered at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Oct 2, 3, 7, and 13. A drive up clinic will also be held at the Wagner Clinic on October 7th and November 4th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All veterans receiving a vaccination will need to wear a face covering.

You can also receive the flu vaccine at a participating VA Community Care pharmacy provider. Hoffman Drug in Platte is one of the providers. They have a limited supply of the vaccine so please call ahead for availability at 605-337-3662. There are other in-network pharmacies in our county but, unfortunately, they do not have anyone on staff that can administer the vaccine.

Another option for those over 65 is Medicare. For those enrolled in Medicare, Part B, you can receive one flu shot per SD flu 57101 season.

If you have questions, call Charles Mix County Veterans Service Officer Jerry Seiner at the office at 605-487-7691 or by cell phone at 605-481-1338.
