The Wagner Lady Raiders overcame a slow first quarter to defeat Gregory 51-16 in their final regular season road game.
Wagner led just 12-5 after the opening quarter as Gregory slowed the tempo and played physical defense. Head Coach Michael Koupal said the team’s early struggles provided a valuable lesson. 'Not a good start offensively as we did some uncharacteristic things fundamentally,' the coach said. 'They slowed the pace down and played physical. In the second quarter we sped the game up and things started to click.'
The coach praised the defensive effort, noting the varsity allowed just eight points through three quarters. 'It was a great teaching moment for our younger kids,' the coach added. 'Our upperclassmen take pride in defense first. It’s about being efficient when given the opportunity on both ends of the floor.'
