UNITY TEAM HOLDS PLANNING MEETING

By
Dana Sanderson

Members of the Unity Team have begun to plan for the third annual 605 Unity JAM that will be held in Wagner on Sunday, June 11 at the Wagner Lake. The event is a Jamboree of Arts and Music and is a multi-cultural celebration for our part of South Dakota.

The event is free and has a goal of increasing culture awareness, understanding, acceptance and appreciation for all cultures in our area. It is designed to help build positive relationships locally and between communities and to help promote our area as a positive community to live and to visit. The event will feature programming that will involve a variety of culturally based music, dance, art, crafts, presenget tations and food. The Unity Team will work on providing a positive activity for everyone, regardless of all age, so they can feel truly welcome and participate in also helping to build a better sense of community. To accomplish this people will be asked to step up to help build up our community through active involvement rather than just sitting on the side street waiting for someone else to do what needs to be done. This includes seeking help from area businesses, the Yankton Sioux Tribe, community organizations and agencies and of course volunteers, all working together as partners help make this event a gem for South Dakota and to help build a better community for tomorrow.
