Tyler Tjeerdsma is the son of Amber Babutzke and Travis and Hillary Tjeerdsma. He wrestled in the 138-pound weight class and is a senior at Avon High School. Tyler has been wrestling for 11 years. His dad, Travis, was the first one to introduce Tyler to wrestling and has definitely inspired and helped Tyler throughout his wrestling career. Being a part of a wrestling legacy, has made Tyler push himself to do better and achieve more than anyone else who has wrestled in his family has.
When asked what he enjoys most about wrestling, Tyler said that it was the community. Being a part of the wrestling community is very special. The teammates, coaches, and fans spend a lot of time together and develop a unique bond that is special to the wrestling community. Tyler’s favorite wrestling move is riding legs. To get prepared for a wrestling meet, Tyler tunes everything out and focuses on the upcoming match. The most challenging match of this season for Tyler would be the placing match for 5th and 6th place at the state tournament. He wrestled Gavin Risse from Bennett County and lost by decision 39- 13. The highlights of the 2023-2024 season for Tyler were placing 6th at the state wrestling tournament and placing 3rd at the state dual tournament.
Tyler did not do anything special to get prepared for this wrestling season. The hardest part about being a wrestler for Tyler is cutting weight. Tyler ended his senior season with a 40-9 win-loss record. He ended his high school wrestling career with 133 wins. Tyler would like to thank his family, teammates, coaches and the community for all of their support and help throughout the years.
