The team members of the 5th grade Wagner Boys Basketball were the real winners last week. In the final seconds of the game they came together to help their teammate, Nathan, a student with a developmental disability, have a chance to score. One of the boys was sad that he didn’t make the shot, but remarked, “ He was close, so I bet he will score at a game this year.” This is what compassion, kindness and a real team spirit look like on our students. Nathan’s mom shared, “I will hold this moment in my heart forever. I appreciate Mr. Belling and Mr. Zephier for believing in Nathan and coaching him with compassion. Kudos to Lona Cole, who for years has been the support that makes Nathan’s success in the inclusion environment possible.”
