Betty Marshall of Parkston and Rev. Dan Brandt were in Marianna/Chipley, Florida for a week-long build on four houses. Suffering from Hurricane Michael, Category 5 in 2018, the damage 80 miles inland affected 80% of structures with some damage or total destruction. A team of 15 did dry wall, caulking, painting, rafters, roof sheeting while Dan and Betty put on heavy gauge metal siding. Airplane cables were placed between studs vertically and roof straps were installed for future hurricanes. To purchase homes, owners must qualify, have financial counseling, be able to pay the mortgage and do hundreds of hours of sweat equity. Two benefits are the donated labor and products and a no interest loan usually ten years, then refinanced.
