THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD FOR SPENCER
A one-lane temporary bridge south of Spencer on US 281 is now open to traffic over the Niobrara River. The bridge is controlled by a traffic signal. The bridge was damaged when the Spencer Dam was destroyed during the March flooding.
Sunday morning the crew from Horizontal Boring & Tunneling Co., of Exeter Nebraska was hard at work as they continue to bore a new water line. The water line feeds nearly all of Boyd County. They began the boring on the south side of the Niobrara River but due to continuing issues loaded up all their equipment and set up on the north side. Things are going great now as they got through Tuesday to where they stopped previously on the south side with the 16" bore. The next step is to make a 24" bore and then pull the pipe through. The town of Spencer is very hopeful and feeling good with the continued progress of Horizonal Boring. Since the March flooding, the city's water has come from two irrigation wells, providing water for their needs but was not safe to drink.
