On Monday, June 24, the Post 7319 teeners traveled to Canova for a couple of games on the diamond.
In the first contest, Wagner would best Canova’s Gang by a score of 3-0. Dominic Doom would get the start on the mound and he would be too much to handle as he went the distance giving up three hits while walking five and striking out ten.
Kingston Brunelle led the way at the plate going 2 for 3 and collecting two RBI. Doom helped himself out as he belted a double, scored two runs and knocked one in. Avery Medicine Bear singled and scored a run while Ethan Gabel and Brannon Bruguier collected one hit apiece.
The 16U game ended up being quite the pitchers duel that ultimately ended with Wagner on top winning by a count of 6-1 in eight innings. In fact, Wagner would not collect its first hit until the extra eighth inning. Canova got one unearned run in the first inning, and it looked like that might be all they needed. However, in the 7th frame Canova’s starter began to weary as he hit one batter and walked two. Add to that an infield error and Wagner was able to tie the score on a bases loaded walk by Colton Zephier.
Preston McFayden led off the 8th inning with a double to the left-centerfield gap. Malakai Segura would follow that up with a walk. After a groundout Brady Cournoyer laced a single into centerfield to score both runners. Two errors, a walk, and an Octavian Kocer single would allow Wagner to tack on three more runs to put the game out of reach.
Cournoyer was the pitcher of record as he pitched the first seven innings giving up only the one unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out nine. Segura came in to finish it out giving up one hit and striking out one.
