TEENERS HOST DOUBLEHEADER VS SALEM

By

On Wednesday, June 18, Wagner’s 14U Teeners sponsored by VFW Post 7319 played host to the team from Salem in a doubleheader.

In game one Jacob Kotab was the starting pitcher, and he went the distance for the second time this season, throwing another gem, leading Wagner to victory by a 3-2 count.

Wagner got on the board first, scoring twice in the opening inning. Colton Zephier, Kotab, and Landon Ronfeldt hit consecutive singles to start things off. Two runs would score on a fielder’s choice groundout by Mason Milk, followed by an error.

Salem answered back in the top of third as they used a single and two errors to plate their two.

In the bottom half of the 3rd Milk delivered a two-out double to score Landon Ronfeldt with which proved to be the winning run.

Salem only got one base runner over the final two innings thanks to some good defensive plays by Austin DeVries, Milk, and a couple by Kotab himself, to preserve the 3-2 win.

Kotab wound up allowing two unearned runs in his five innings of work. He allowed just four hits while walking only one and striking out four.

Zephier was the hit leader for Wagner as he collected two of them and scored once. Kotab, Landon Ronfeldt, DeVries, and Cooper Gene Kuhlman all singled with Kotab and Ronfeldt scoring a run. Milk collected two RBI.

The second game needed one extra inning of play as Wagner could not pull off the sweep, falling by a score of 5-3.

Salem got two runs in the top of the 1st. Wagner came back with one in the second after a two-out single by Jackson Woods scored Milk. We then tied the score in the 4th as Landon Ronfeldt doubled and courtesy runner Cooper Slaba scored on a single from Tyler Ronfeldt. We weren’t able to keep Salem off the board in the 5th as they used a hit by pitch, a stolen base and some wild pitches to take the lead.

Wagner would answer back in the bottom half as Ruger Loeffler singled and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Reiter. Slaba then slapped a single to left, putting runners at the corners. Zephier would score Loeffler after grounding into a fielder’s choice.

Unfortunately, Wagner was not able to keep Salem down in the 6th as they used two walks, two hit batters, and a single to plate two. Their closer then came on to strike out our 3-4-5 batters to end the game.

Landon Ronfeldt started the game and gave up two earned runs on three hits and no walks while striking out three. Tyler Ronfeldt then came on in relief. He tossed 1.1 innings. His control eluded him in this one as he walked three, hit two, struck out two, and allowed a hit and three earned runs to cross the plate. DeVries came on to calm things down though he did hit one batter but got one fielder’s choice and a K to end the frame. Zephier, Woods, Loeffler, Slaba, and Tyler and Landon Ronfeldt each had a hit in this game with Zephier, Woods, and Tyler Ronfeldt all driving in a run. Milk, Loeffler, and Slaba each scored one.
