Property taxes are due the end of April (1st half). We all to the courthouse to pay, but where does the money go? A house in Avon with a $5,401.68 tax bill will be split four main places: • City of Avon $2,755.47 • Avon School $1,826.99 • BH County $771.24 • Avon Fire Dist. $47.98 Taxes on 156 acres (no buildings) in Jefferson Township, Avon School District are $3,086.30. • Avon School $1,756.35 • BH County $1,268.03 • Avon Fire Dist. $61.92 In 1989, the legislature put limits on how much a County, School and City could increase budget, 3% or rate of inflation, whatever is lower. With the rate of inflation much higher than 3% elected officials have many challenges as they their budgets together.
