SWEETHEART SERENADE RAISES MONEY FOR SENIOR TRIP
On Friday, February 12, the senior choir and band members (ALL GIRLS) went around to different towns to serenade someone’s special someone as a Sweetheart Serenade. For $10, Keely Bares, Megan Soukup, Cassie Stewart, Ali Sees, Kristen Namminga, and Natalie Zacharias would serenade your sweetheart to the tune of “The Way You Do the Things You Do.” They also performed “Amazing Grace” and “Jesus Loves Me” for nursing home residents in Lake Andes, Corsica, and Wagner.
Choir Director Autumn Shultz said, “We advertise as a fundraiser for our music trip and go around singing to people’s special someone, but it becomes way more than that. It becomes a day of filling people’s buckets and putting smiles on their faces, bringing tears to their eyes, and in a way is like a community outreach service.”
They went to many different area towns including Avon, Springfield, Wagner, Corsica, and Parkston. They ended up with a little over $400, and are still getting donations. Shultz has done this tradition for four years now. She said, “It’s a fun way to fundraise money for the choir, and is sometimes better than flowers and chocolate. It’s just a feel-good day.”
