SVATOS PLACES 12TH AT STATE GOLF MEET

Andes Central golfer, Abigail Svatos, took home 12th place at the annual Class B State Golf Meet on June 3rd and 4th at Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings. Abigail is the daughter of Ryan and Erica Svatos and the granddaughter of Dan and Martha Svatos and Al and Marcia Podzimek.

Before the state meet, Abigail placed 4th with a score of 97 at the Regional Golf Tournament. At the state golf meet, Abigail scored an 87 on the first day and a 90 on the second day.

Abigail first started golfing when she was little. Her dad, Ryan, taught her most of the fundamental skills before she joined the ACDC golf team in seventh grade. Abigail golfed for the ACDC varsity golf team since she was a seventh grader. She absolutely loves golfing and enjoys everything from the traveling to different courses to making new friends. Making birdie putts and tripling a hole are just icing on the cake. With golf there are a lot of ups and downs, but as a golfer she has learned to enjoy it all.

To be a good golfer, being mentally strong is one of the most important skills to be successful. Abigail has learned that if her head is not in the right place then her game will not be as good as it could be. It is important for her to be able to keep her cool and not get worked up over a bad shot. Having these skills has helped her golf better.

Abigail has two favorite golf courses. When it comes to a ninehole course, Springfield’s golf course is her favorite because of the views and challenges. Her favorite 18-hole golf course is the Tatanka Golf Club in Niobrara, NE because of the number of challenges that the course possesses. For Abigail, challenges equal fun.

Abigail’s favorite golf meet of her senior year was regions in Mitchell. This was her favorite meet because she was able to see her best friend and teammate, Danica Middendorp, qualify for the state meet with her.

Even though her time golfing with the ACDC golf team has come to an end, Abigail will continue to work on her golf game. It is such a fun sport to play when not competing or just going out with friends. Golf is a sport that will be a part of the rest of her life.

Abigail has a few final thoughts on her final season as an ACDC golfer. For her it has definitely been a challenge to even start thinking about not being a high school golfer anymore. Golf has been something that has been a part of her life for so long and taught her so much, making it that much harder to let go of. Abigail is very grateful for the experience and lessons learned. She encourages everyone to give golf a try because it has been impacted her life in ways that she cannot explain.

Congratulations Abigail on your 12th place win!
