After decades of hosting Oktoberfest in Menno, with a polka band or a Branson style show, SoDak Stamm Chapter of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society is trying something new, or Neu as it is spelled in German. They are hosting a Sunday afternoon talent contest. We have two categories for contestants to participate in. There's a category for youth and another for adults. ' From the those who've contacted me, it should be an interesting and varied program," says SoDak Stamm President, Dan Flyger, of Freeman. "Many years ago Menno hosted a popular talent contest. It's gotten difficult and very expensive to find musical entertainment for our traditional Oktoberfest and also our members are getting older and it's a lot for work," Flyger reports. This year's event will be on Sunday afternoon, October 6, at 2 PM, in the City Auditorium on Main Street in Menno. Come and enjoy the entertaining afternoon! A lite lunch of finger food will be provided. The event is free and open to the public, but a donation can will be set out and the society will also conduct a silent auction to help raise funds for their various programs and activities throughout the year.
