SUMMER READING PROGRAM COMES TO AN END

By

The Avon Public Library hosted its final day for the Summer Reading Program on July 19th. There were about 30 children and half a dozen adults in attendance. Huge thanks goes to our guest readers High School Junior, Sarah Sweir, and 5th grader, Addy Lavelle. They both did a remarkable job with their reading. Every participant was able to choose a prize from the treasure box this week. This was made possible due to the businesses who donated prizes. We are overwhelmed with the amount of support we have had for the program this summer. After story time and prizes, everyone enjoyed oyster decorated cookies, beach bum mix, and salt water taffy. Young Authors began putting some final touches on their creations for their book making. Some stayed for a few hours to finish, and others will finish at home and bring the pages in to be scanned. The library staff is excited to see the final product of the work done this summer. Our underwater mural is really getting filled up with sea life. Please continue stopping in at the library to add your books to the fish through August 15th.

To round off our Underwater Summer Reading Program, the library is sponsoring an interactive movie on August 2 at 8:15pm in the Avon City Park. This is a free event. Each participant will be given a bag of props, and snacks and drinks will be provided. We will be watching Finding Nemo and rather than just sitting and watching, we will be using props to interact with each other during the movie. All ages are welcome! Anyone wanting to join us needs to sign up at the library or call Twila to be added to the list. This will assure we will have enough prop bags and snacks/drinks for everyone.
